Some of our projects
Current Initiatives & Projects
Swop Shop
Runs at Airport Valley, once a month. People from the local community collect refuse bags of plastic bottles to trade them for Swop Shop Points and exchanging the points to “buy” groceries. Help us to continue and enlarge this mission!
What we need: Small packets of washing powder, soap, rice, oil & sugar or any non-perishable food items.
John Masiza Reading
An on-going partnership with the school in Walmer Township. We assist Grade 2 learners in small groups of one or two. We assist with the English alphabet, high frequency words and reading stories on Thursdays from 13:00 to 15:00 at Walmer Methodist Church.
What we need: Volunteers are needed to assist or teach children English reading skills.
Adopt-a-Family
Walmer Methodist family is connected to a Bread of Life family for mutual connection, prayer, networking and support. The Bread of Life families are recipients of our mentoring programme and receive a food parcel bimonthly.
What we need: commitment to attend socials and provide prayer support for one another.
Homework Club
Primary school children from the local community are stimulated with numeracy and literacy activities. A community resident and retired teacher runs the homework club Monday to Thursday from 14:00 to 16:00 at Airport Valley.
What we need: Donations of fruit, stationery, puzzles, or a financial contribution.
Skills Development
Aims to connect the materially poor with WMC members’ abilities to teach what they know. Skills range from teaching people to knit, bake, woodwork, how to write a CV, etc. We welcome presenters who can teach a skill or donate funds.
What we need: financial support anD FACILITATORS FOR SPECIFIC SKILLS
AGAN Clothing Sale
We sell pre-loved, second hand clothing to the local community at our As Good As New Clothing Sale. Watch our Facebook and Instagram pages for dates of sale. Proceeds go towards funding various mission ministries such as Bread of Life Mentoring and Ministry.
What we need: Donations of good quality second hand clothing.
Bread of life food parcels
Food Parcels
We help approximately 160 individuals with food parcels, mentoring, skills development and ministry. We aim to provide them training and support to find employment.
It costs R150 per food parcels, and each individual receives 2 food parcels once a month, which includes maize meal, rice, pasta, canned food, pap and sugar.
Thus, it costs us around R60 000 every month to buy food parcels for our Bread of Life participants. Your donation makes a difference.
When you donate financially to any of the missions at Bread of Life, you can receive a tax certificate.
